neuroanatomist
Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences
Director, Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Central Nervous Regeneration Institute, Jinan University, Guangzhou
Chair Professor, National Laboratory of Brain and Cognition, University of Hong Kong
Editor-in-chief of Chinese Journal of Neural Regeneration Research
He was born in Shunde, Guangdong Province in January 1948, and is a neuroanatomist and academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. He is director of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Research Institute of Central Neural Regeneration at Jinan University in Guangzhou, professor of the National Laboratory of Brain and Cognition at the University of Hong Kong, and Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal Neural Regeneration Research. He has carried out researches on the influence of neuroactive substances on brain function and brain diseases for many years, and has long been committed to exploring the factors of neuroprotection and regeneration. He uses multi-channel technologies and methods to promote the regeneration of optic nerve and spinal cord axons, including immune response, exercise and rehabilitation training, as well as small molecular protective factors such as nanomedical medicine, nutritional factors and Chinese herbs. Prof. Su Guohui has been engaged in research on the development, plasticity and regeneration of mammalian visual system. In 1985, he was the first to achieve long-distance axonal regeneration of retinal ganglion cells in adult mammals by peripheral nerve transplantation. The World's Pioneer in optic nerve regeneration Research." .
Academician Su Guohui was awarded the National Natural Science Award in 1995. In 1999, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 2015, he was elected a fellow of the National Institute of Inventors. In 2019, he was elected as a member of the Faculty of Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. So far, he has published more than 470 SCI papers and has 46 patents.
